Spar payment

Has anyone completed an assignement for SPAR and been paid? I did an audit that should have paid $45 for 5 hours work. Taxes and workman's comp were deducted leaving me with a net of $32. Can that be possible?

No, that's not possible i don't believe. They should have subtracted $1.35 for WC and no taxes. SPAR merchandisers are independent contractors.

If they are classifying you as an employee and deducting taxes, then why do you have to pay for worker's comp?

A pay stub was included with the check just like a normal wage statement with the deductions listed like a regular pay stub.

Using an online calculator for my state and inputting a weekly pay cycle resulted in no deductions for federal or state and only $3.45 for SS and Medicare. More importantly, there was no deduction for worker's comp.

People need to get together regarding SPAR's practices. I've heard a lot that would indicate they have gone from blurring the line between employee and IC to just erasing it completely. Mostly it appears they treat the requirements like a Chinese restaurant menu and choose whichever one benefits them most. The IRS would not be amused.
