It's a bunch of crap to get your money in their pockets and to make her car payments. (Yes, I get stirred up about that subject but i digress......)

I have no certificate at all, nor have I ever paid anyone to let me shop and I've been doing this for 15 years now. A certificate doesn't make you better or worse, you have to learn by experience. Read this and other boards and learn all you can, sharpen your acting skills and make sure you can outrun goats and irate gas station managers and suchlike. I've been chased by both.

Don't be afraid to ask questions of other shoppers on the boards and if you post at one in particular, watch your back.

I'm a middle-aged broad, but naive still in some matters. I'm not afraid to ask questions - here's one. Could you elaborate on why one should watch their back on a particular board?

Hi Kathy,

If you obtained your certificate from the MSPA.org (Mystery Shopping Providers Association) then you're more than half way there! If not, then that would be a good place to start. They have job listings from various reputable shopping companies. You'll get a lot of good advice here and probably some unwelcome ones too but this forum is a great source for new shoppers. The experienced shoppers on this forum have a great sense of the field in their neck of the woods. Good luck and happy shopping!
To get a certificate for mystery shopping you pay the MSPA for it and they give you a piece of paper. You do NOT need it to get MS jobs.

Hmmm. I didn't think the MSPA even gave you a piece of paper for your purchase of a certificate. smiling smiley
With the mspa, you have to use your own paper and ink if you want a hard copy of your certificate.

I prefer the nice check in the mail that says "I'm a mystery shopper" smiling smiley (or even better, the direct deposit or the Paypal payment).
