Hi ya'll,

I would like to know if you could tell me who or how you recieve your health insurance and benefits? How do you pay it? I think that I remember seeing that the insurance is refunded at the end of the year as well. Do you have to have your own EIN # in order to be able to claim that?

You do not have to have an EIN to claim self-employed health insurance premiums as a cost of doing business. They do not get refunded; you just have a deduction so that you don't pay taxes on what you paid for health insurance, up to some limit, depending on your SE income for the year.

As for "where" we get our health insurance, that will vary by state, because states license health insurance companies and have different requirements, so different companies and differennt coverages are offered in each state. What state to you live in?

ok, google "health insurance Lousiana" and see what you get. The good news is that starting in October you will be able to see the info all in one place for your state's "State Health Ins Exchange" program, required under the ACA. I think that Lousiana has opted not to have its own state exchange, which would mean that the Federal government will run the exchange. Most southern states have opted out. You will still be buying from a PRIVATE health insurance company, btw. In addition, many states are opting to extend Medicaide to higher income and single individuals whom they have not previously provided coverage. You might want to also check that out. I think that both take effect January 2014. In the meanwhile, you are on your own to research the options.

Another benefit to mystery shopping, a couple of weeks ago I got paid $45 to check out health insurance. As luck would have it, the coverage is as good or better than my current health insurance and will cost about $80 less.
