Legitimate?

I received a check in the mail today and an assignment via e-mail instructing me to cash the check at Wal-Mart and to use the check to purchase a money gram from Wal-Mart? The person I am communicating with/the mail return on the check is marked to this company. Is this legitimate?

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Just recieved a $1,900.00 check from fsc marketing inc. I was instructed to deposit the check and use a certan amount to use for my 1st job. They have a website at www.fscmarketinginc.com for you to sign in, get and do your jobs. I do sooooo many surveys and have signed up with so many companies that I cant remember if they were actually one I signed with... anyway, are they legit? Or am I in trouble with my bank now? Yhanks, Mwcat90
DO NOT CASH THE CHECK. IT IS A SCAM. Do not send the money to anyone. Go to the bank and tell them you have been the victim of a scam.
These things are really common sense. If it looks to good to be true, know for a fact it is. C'mon now, look at this! Someone you don't know from the man in the moon sends you a check for "whatever" because they know you maybe, or they saw your email address on a list of ten thousand others, and they want you to cash itor deposit it!? This is to good to be true because it is, to... good... to...be... true!
The problem is that they operate of others greed. You are greedy and all it costs them is paper. You may never be able to open a checking or savings account evef again if things get as bad with them as they can, and do. Shred it, and do not respond in any way.

Of curse you are being scammed! No reputable company sends a stranger so much money before any work has been completed. Typical shop pay is $7 to $10 for new shoppers!

Ask yourself: why would a company send $1,900 to a total stranger who did not apply for a job, provide personal and professional information, and be interviewed or checked out? Scam, definitely. Payment for assignments performed by legitimate companies is sent AFTER you complete the job correctly and do the report. And payment from legitimate companies is usually between $5 and $15.

To find legitimate companies you can work with, see the blue link at the bottom of the page, Official List of Mystery Shopping Companies. There are 195 companies listed there.

You can earn a modest amount of money mystery shopping but no legitimate company will pay you in advance. You will always be paid after you complete the shop and submit an accepted report. Most jobs pay under $15.00 including reimbursement. There are no get rich quick deals here.

I recently received an email from a person named Kenneth Brown to fill out an application for mystery shopping for safeway. He said the assignment would be sent via USPS. How do I know its legit?
It is not legitimate. Mystery shopping companies do not contact you out of the clear blue, they do not ask you to register via e-mail and they do not send assignments in the mail. No doubt the "assignment" will include a check. That is another thing mystery shopping companies do not do, pay you before you work. Seriously, who would pay you ahead of time?

Martha, welcome to the forum. The contact from Kenneth Brown is a scam. That is not the way this works. You will need to sign up on line with mystery shopping companies, who will list what they have available on job boards on their sites. After you are accepted to do a shop, you will be furnished with guidelines. After your report is accepted, you will be paid an amount which will usually be between $7 and $15. No legitimate company will ever pay you in advance, and they will never pay huge amounts of money for any job.

Are there any mystery shopping programs that are legit, perhaps in NYC? I pretty much want to start from there. I do receive a check that is almost $2000 from some secret shopping program that comes with a few catches, but due to my intuitions I didn't cash it, wondering why are they sending me money in advance for the program I didn't sign up for and the jobs I wasn't assigned to yet. This is my first time here on the forum.
Hello charm, welcome to the forum. The $2,000 check is a scam. There are thousands of mystery shoppers working for legitimate mystery shopping companies. You can tell as a new shopper when you're looking at a legitimate offer for a shop because the guidelines will be detailed, the execution will appear close to impossible, and the report will be terrifying. The pay will seem not nearly enough (from $6 to $15) and you will be paid only if you do everything correctly and your report is accepted. Not to worry. Jump right in and study up carefully before each shop and do your best. You will find some companies that readily accept new shoppers and will work with you to develop your skills. Try Corporate Research, Market Force, Maritz, and Bare. You can read up these companies by doing a search on the forum, or just by reading in the Mystery Shopping Company section where you will find multiple threads on all of them. You can always find help here from the forum members.
