Help with Scam protection

I am reaching out to those of you who have been doing this for some time and "know the ropes". I have registered on only 3 sites thus far and while all of them asked me for my birth date, none of them asked me for my social security number. However, I was in the process of registering for ath power consulting but they are asking for my social. I did not complete my registration process but I am interested in a job they posted in my area. Should I contact them directly to express my concern with providing my social. As far as I'm concerned, this is the one piece of information that I would not want to fall into the wrong hands! Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated!

gbell415, welcome to the forum. Most of the mystery shopping companies that you sign up with will require your social security number. Some will allow you to sign up without providing the social security number immediately, but if you perform a job for them, you will have to provide it in order to get paid. I have provided my social security number to all companies that I currently work for. I always make sure I sign up on a secure website and that I sign up with only legitimate companies. Below, the blue link at the bottom of the page, Official List of Mystery Shopping Companies, is a great list of legitimate companies.
