I want a list of the best companies...

Minnie, I read your diatribe and I do not agree with you. Why go through the mud when others already have? Why not learn from their mistakes and experience? Scientists learn and improve on each other, except the ones with patents, of course. Companies, too. The computer and cell phone world would not have progressed so much if they all have to start from scratch.

That's the purpose of this forum, so we can learn from each other. For those of you who are too selfish to share, like Minnie, so be it. But for others, who are nice and would like to share, it is great. We all can profit by sharing !

MaryL,
You can pretty much take it that Minnie's original post is the position of the forum members in general. I think that you owe Minnie an apology.

I agree. We are not scientists here, discovering the mysteries of the world to the betterment of mankind. We are independent contractors, bidding for scarce jobs in a tough economy. We help each other with methodology as far as how to do shops, keep records, and use of equipment to help us -- but getting jobs needs to be an individual effort. We will warn people AWAY from bad companies, but don't tell them where all the plum jobs are hiding.

If you were a gardener, working an exclusive neighborhood and making your living that way, you might tell a newbie what is the best lawnmower to use and how often to sharpen the blades, but are you going to give him your client list and say, "Sure, go ahead, see if some of my clients will give you my jobs"? Heck no, you wouldn't. You would guard those names and phone numbers, knowing full well some newbie might still show up in your neighborhood and underbid you with some of them. But you don't help him do it. You took years to build up that client base and develop your gardening route. Why would you hand that info to someone else just to "help them out"? You have your own family to feed, after all.

Why is this any different?

You have actually hit the nail on the head. We are all business owners here and are not obligated to help anyone. That someone can be as ungrateful and ungracious as to speak so hatefully to people who donate their time is unconscionable.

Wow. Just wow.

(Nearly) speechless, along with MDavis.

Just one of the symptoms of one of the things wrong with our society today.

The gardening business scenario presented by itsasecret is perfect.

Why should someone else make money from my efforts? Unless, of course, they want to pay me a commission for my contribution.

I will try to limit responses to those insulting us. They don't appreciate what we've done and they want more, more, more. They're unteachable and every outcome is the same.

MaryL would you like to tell us when you are going to give that good karma a shot? Meanwhile all you have done is to shoot yourself in the foot. While no one can prevent you from reading an open forum and taking advantage of all the worthwhile information provided. there is no reason for you to be allowed to continue to insult anyone.

Two pieces of advice. First to MaryL, don't let the door hit you in the backside on the way out. Second, to everyone else, let's stop feeding the trolls.

Seriously? Stick your head in the mud? My great grandmother used to say that.

She's right: she doesn't owe any of us anything, even though she has gotten plenty from her visits to the forum. There a lot of information provided here free by unselfish shoppers who are willing to share their time and knowledge with newbies (and with not-so-newbies). Those who don't appreciate the huge volume of free information offered and want more should go elsewhere and try to find it.

MaryL, you have every right to disagree with me.

I respectfully ask of you: What is the reasoning behind patents?

To MaryL and anyone who shares her opinions:

I believe there is a possibility that you may have misunderstood my original post. We are not anti-helping. I returned to this forum time after time because of all the wonderful help. If you take the time to visit the store of information here, you can see that for yourself. (But as with all things, only if you're willing to put in the time and effort.)

The original post was to explain that there is an area that the vast majority of shoppers will not discuss, and that is the companies that are their best clients. Would you be the kind of person who would expect a building contractor to tell you about a lead on a project he spent a lot of time and effort cultivating?

I must say, I'm surprised that you attempted to categorize anyone as good or bad based on one web post. I'm not offended, though, because people are usually only offended about insults that are true.

FLGuy65: I want to thank you for quoting MaryL's post in response to Walesmaven. I didn't get to read it before she deleted it in an apparently fleeting moment of good sense. I'm truly amazed.

No, Walesmaven, No, I don't owe you, Minnie or any of you any apology. You can stick your head in
the mud.

FLguy65, thanks for giving me a big laugh. My sons also used to say that - when they were preschoolers.
Maybe someone is being given undeserved credit. Who exactly deleted the most offensive post? I could not find any evidence of it other than where it was quoted.

It looks to me like the moderator deleted it because it was such an inappropriate insult. Of course, because it was such an inappropriate insult, rather than causing anyone to feel insulted, I think it simply reflected on the poster and gave the rest of us a laugh.
The moderator was my thought since normally there is some evidence when we delete our own. As to the humorous aspect, she has now joined the ranks of some of our other illustrious trolls. Nobody can say this place ain't good for a laugh or three!

I'm with Lisa. MaryL didn't delete the posts or we would still see the title and ID information. I've deleted one or more of my own, and while I can delete narrative comments, I can't get rid of the framework. I'm thinking the deletions weren't made by MaryL.

I notice as recently as yesterday she posted asking for help with the Coyle hotel shops. Forum members who are better people than I am responded to her request. Bless them. Sorry, I am a bad girl with new baggage.

And that post requesting help was made not more than six minutes after the one slamming us. Now that is one ballsy -----.

My vote is that someone read her posts and flagged for deletion.

Edited because I can't make a complete thought this late at night. Sorry.

I have to laugh. Whenever I receive an insult from someone that is not justified (alas, I am not perfect; on occasion I have found myself to be a jerk! ...am working on this, but I digress....)

...when someone WHO DOESN'T KNOW ME sends me an unsolicited or unworthy insult, I ....pause.... and reply:

"Your comment says so much more about YOU than it does about ME."

It is AMAZINGLY effective, and fun to use!
