Password Managers

Especially with getting ready to travel, I plan to be putting in more applications at MSC's. To save time, I've read the suggestion to use a password manager. However, I have a few questions:

* Many people have mentioned RoboForm. However, it appears to cost after its trial period. Is there something else just/nearly as good as Freeware or an add-on? What about LastPass (on Firefox, my preferred browser).

* If you have already saved passwords, do these programs pick them up? If they create new (stronger?) passwords, do they replace the other in forms as you load them?

Any thoughts, input and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Chrome on my computers and Safari on my phone save my passwords now so I haven't used Roboform in ages. The only problem for me has been when a site changes. This happened with Dynamic Advantage recently and Google didn't recognize the site. I entered my password manually and must have missed the popup asking if I would like to save and now I cannot figure out how to do it.

Lisa, click on the wrench then settings and click on show advanced settings then look for Manage Saved Passwords.

I did that and found all the ones that are saved. How do I add one?

I use Firefox almost exclusively for shops and shopping websites. Firefox prompts if you want the password remembered and does a great job of pulling it up the next time you visit. If you put in a different password, it will ask if you want it to remember it. This will replace the previous password.

Regardless of how you choose to do it, have a hard copy backup of your passwords. I simply have a Excel spreadsheet that has the company website, the user name and password. From time to time I print out a copy. This comes in handy if your computer crashes irretrievably or if for some reason you need to use another computer.
Doesn't Firefox allow you to sign in so you can access your passwords across different devices?

I don't know, I've never tried it. My sense is that the passwords are stored on my local machine rather than 'out there somewhere' to be accessible from other devices.
I use Chrome also and have now realized that it won't prompt me to remember the password for Dynamic Advantage either. Perhaps it's something with that site and Chrome?

I Googled it and tried a few different things, none of which worked. I give up (for now).

With Firefox the only websites that I have found don't cooperate are some financial sites. Some of them won't even allow the computer to remember username. I've not had that problem with MS sites.
It's my understanding that LastPass, an add-on to Firefox, not only acts as a Password Manager but can help fill forms too. I believe LastPass saves a Master password that keeps track of all the others, and that it is accessible anywhere with that password.

Anyone with experience with it specifically?

I have not used it but Firefox itself remembers blanks. If your name is Samantha Jones at 123 Main St. with a phone number of 123-456-7890, after the first application, when you get to first name you will only need to enter an 's' and you will be prompted for Samantha as the fill, for the last name a 'j' for the fill, a '1' for the address, a '1' for the phone. That to me is perfect because a more complete autofill would require that I carefully read through to make sure that this was not the odd form that asked for last name first instead of first name so things had filled backwards.
Thanks for the update! It makes me feel better, but doesn't prevent the DA site from being a PITA, LOL!

I do like the way Chrome saves everything. Autofill makes filling out apps a breeze and even saves time on reports. The convenience of being able to use any device and have the passwords there for me has become a real time saver as well. If there is one downside, it doesn't sync with my phone. I have to export the setting to IE and then syncsad smiley

I like Last Pass, because I can create ridiculously complex passwords that I would never otherwise remember. Better security that way. It's worked great for me.
I use Keeper on an Ipad for passwords and logins; very secure and easy. It doesn't fill in forms, though. not free, either. ($10 per year)

I wouldn't have bought it only for MS, probably, but it's great for confidential passwords for banking etc.
