MSPA Certified Shopper

I was just looking over the job posting board and one post mentioned they were looking for MSPA Certified Shopper. What is that and how do you get certified?

This is a certification by the Mystery Shopping Providers Association (MSPA). Here is their website: [mysteryshop.org]

You can click on their web address and see what they are and research certifications available. For information on the differing opinions as to the value of certification, use the "search" function on the forum and select "all dates"
I am a relatively new shopper as well and am wondering if this MSPA "Gold" or "Silver" Certification is important for me to obtain in order to get more high paying shops down the road? Any advice you have for me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There's a LOT of disagreement about being a Silver or Gold.

Personally, I'm getting plenty of shops without needing to be "certified". So are plenty of other shoppers.

I'd say, from the general consensus here - Nope, why bother.

Do a search on the forums for MSPA Certified.

I am "Silver" certified and a family member who also shops has NO certification. We see exactly the same shops. I have not noticed Silver certification to be a plus, and I have no plans to go for the Gold.
This is my criteria for purchases specific to mystery shopping:

1. Will it generate enough income to pay for itself?
2. Will it save me time and/or money?

Some people feel the silver certification is cheap enough at $15. I haven't been convinced that it would result in more or better jobs. The gold is just plain pricey at $100 or more.

I'm not certified and I get offers for more jobs than I could ever hope to keep up with. smiling smiley

I've never found a MSC that required certification, nor have I found any jobs that required it.
I'm not certified and have been shopping for 5+ years....it's not worth it to me. I get all kinds of offers. save your money.
I don't believe you have to be certified to do well and get work, but it's been worth it to me. The certification program helped me but it could be a lot better and should be improved.

I'm silver certified and did it for 15.00 years ago....and happy I have it. I like to have a certification# to put on applications, and yes, I have been offered jobs I may not have had, however, good work ethics and experience go along with it, they both work together.
Gold, no reason at this point, just too expensive.

I got the silver, I figured for $15 maybe it would help and it couldn't hurt, I have received a couple emails with jobs that said they prefer MSPA Certified Shoppers but that certification is not required.

I don't know that the $15 has done anything for me except that I've met myself and I know that if I didn't do it I would keep wondering if I should. I spent $15 and now I don't have to think about it again.

I will not be spending $100 though. I'm not giving up that kind of money without some hard evidence that it's worth it.
