Google search for bad complaints

Do you check on companies before you sign up? I'm beginning to think, with being new at this; I will do a google search for complaints, first

There is a shortcut built into this forum for you. At the bottom of each page of the forum is the "Official List of Mystery Shopping Companies". If you explore it you will see that there is both a link to discussions here about the company as well as to the website to register.

If you Google complaints about any legitimate company out on the web you are likely to run into situations where the name of a real company was used by a scammer who was sending out bogus checks to try to get some poor soul to wire transfer money back to them before the check bounced.
I do not check on companies before signing up. Unless I happen to have read something horrible about a company, I sign up with any and all. BUT before accepting the first assignment with a new (new to me) company, I do a search for the company with "all dates" here on the forum. I also search Volition.com to read what has been posted. I realize that any company might have had an uh-oh or that a poster might have unreasonably written an angry post so one or 2 posts don't put me off, but if there are multiple posts about a company all saying similar things, especially payment not being made, there is cause for worry and I don't accept the assignment. I don't give much credence to the posts of one-time posters because I don't "know" them, but if a poster who has been around for some time and I "know" them by their past posts, says something very negative, I LISTEN. I don't work because I am desperate to get as many jobs as I can, I work for money/reimbursements/extra goodies. If I have any doubt about receiving my payment, I don't even think about it. Better safe than sorry.
I've seen complaints about people who did shops for a company, but they didn't get paid. They really don't provide any details, but go on about how they were scammed by the company. If I have any doubt, I double check this forum or volition to confirm if it's a legitimate company.
I do a little bit of my own research through different methods yet also prefer to get a referral from colleagues that shop.
