best company for hotel shops?

Hi!

I'm fairly new to MSing, but I’m definitely not new to customer service expectations (having slightly higher than average expectations for service levels and having a management background in different service industries). I have been MSing for about 4 months, doing mainly restaurants and car service shops, with a few apartment complex, movie theater, and hotel shops. I'm trying to find good companies to complete hotel shops for specifically. By good I mean that pay = amount of reporting needed.

I've only done one for A Closer Look, which was reimbursement only. I have also just this week signed up for Coyle, but have yet to even get assigned a phone shop much less attempted to apply for their hotels. If anyone could point me in the right direction I’d appreciate it!

I should add that I shop around Columbus, GA (2 hrs outside of ATL) and can anyone tell me what PITA means :-)

My intuition tells me that you are registered with two of the three most likely candidates. You may also want to check with Buckalew Hospitality.

Just as a quick and dirty reference--if it has 'Hospitality' in the name of the company it is likely to do hotel shops. Please, please, please research any company offering hotel shops on this website or at Volition.com to see if shoppers are having issues with the companies vis-a-vis payments. These things do change from time to time and from my reading, Freeman seems to be currently paying for theirs after the 12 week pay cycle if you contact them a couple of times.

I think, however, that you will find that almost all of them underpay for the amount of reporting required, so unless you need a room for the night anyway, they just may not be worthwhile.
Thanks AustinMom. Posts with that make a lot more sense to me now!

Flash - Thanks for the reference. I stumbled across 1 MSP and tried to Google for more after that. I was always paranoid about signing up with companies and then I found this site. It's so helpful and has kept me from making more than 1 bad decision, thank you!
A warning about Coyle. I signed up with them after they posted recruiting notices for one metro area and 2 resort areas I shop in. I got a restaurant job (sports bar) fairly quickly, but then nothing was listed within 300 miles . . . for a year. Then a hotel in New Orleans . . . one that not only had I stayed in, but actually shopped for another company (the hotel itself was not coyle's client; it was a competitor shop). I had hotel shopping experience with Bestmark (casinos) A Closer Look and Anonymous Insights and explained all this on my application, so I thought I would be the logical choice. Apparently not, nor had they turned me down yet within a week of the shop deadline. Waited a few months again. Finally wrote asking, Do you, in fact, have any clients in any of these 3 areas? Am I likely to ever get restaurant jobs that might help me work up to hotels, should they come along? Well, they had a lounge in Biloxi that was still on their books but hadn't actually scheduled a shop in a very long time. Other than that, no. I felt that their recruiting was very misleading. Advertising for shoppers, promising the moon, when there were actually no active clients in those areas. (don't know what happened to that original sports bar chain, but I guess they lost the account)
If you live in an area where Bestmark shops casinos, there are sometimes hotel shops among the other casino listings--and they pay $50 (at least in my area) as well as reimburse (including a room service interaction adequate for a nice dinner for one or lighter fare (sandwiches, etc.) for 2! And there is no gaming required for the hotel shops

At first I thought the reports were very demanding, but with more experience I know they are not heavy by comparison to others, some of which pay less or reimburse only. Of course the hotels aren't as expensive to start with as some of those, but the two I do are very nice and have resort amenities. The reporting time is 24 hours.

I highly recommend these!
