how to start

Want to know what is the first thing I should do to start. Does it ever cost any money for joining any companies. How do you know what is a legitimate company or just a scam

I have found that real mystery companies don't charge a fee to get started. There are a few companies that will charge you for a list of companies that do shopping. however, you can get started for free by looking around this site or googling "mystery shopping". Don' t pay to join a specific company.

Correct skeetshammers. And welcome to the forum both of you! There is a link to a list of companies at the bottom of each page of the forum called the Official List of Mystery Shopping Companies that will take you to registration sites for the companies as well as threads where shoppers here are discussing the companies.

I'm just about to start this new adventure of mystery shopping. I sure hope I'm going to make some money. I'm a single parent and need extra income badly. I'm not a computer geek so I hope things are simple and easy to understand. So far so good. Wish me luck. Reading these comments and questions were a brillant idea and very helpful.

Make sure you read the reimbursement guidelines for each of your shops. Many require you to make a purchase that will be reimbursed. However, you will have outstanding money out there. I would hate to see you run up credit cards, deplete your checking account, etc. Other shops are fee only. You will find that some of the surveys are easy and do not take up much time, others are tedious and complicated. I would suggest starting with Marketforce. You will see mixed reviews. I have had good experiences with them.
