Mystery Shopper Company--is it a REAL Company???

I received a letter from a company called "Prestige Shopper" along with a check, a pretty big check at that. Listed on the paper was 4 tasks to do. I have heard of many "SCAMS",. I would like to know if anyone has heard of this company?? The letter explains the "Code of Business Conduct and Ethics", its reads so real, and also states that it is with the BBB. I am really interested in doing "Mystery Shopping", I collect a small SS check and the extra money would be Great for me. Thank you

Scam, scam, scam, scam . . .

As someone stated on another thread, if you receive unexpected money that you have done nothing to receive, it is a scam.

The way shopping works is that you first sign up with the companies, then request jobs, then get jobs, then do jobs--usually with some out of pocket expense, and then 2weeks - 3 months later get paid for your work and reimbursed whatever was agreed for the job.

Read some of the other SCAM threads for the addresses of authorities you can turn over the materials to--save the envelope, all the paperwork and the check. DO NOT ATTEMPT to cash the check. It will cost you money when it bounces as it is bogus.

Good advice, but don't scare her with "3 months;" she's just getting started!

Cheurbs--most of them pay some time during the next month.

Indeed most pay during the next month but there are notable exceptions so it makes sense to peruse the website carefully of an MSP you are signing up with because there are those like JC&Associates and Service Sleuth, both of which tend to be heavy on the reimbursement and light or non-existent on the fees, that take their 3 months.

As mentioned in the "Sticky" threads at the top of this section, you need to figure out who is shopping clients in your area. One of the best ways to do this is to sign up with Jobslinger.com. More comments on how to use that site are in the "Sticky" threads. And if you don't find the company addresses at Jobslinger.com to sign up, there is an extensive list here in a sticky at the top of the "Mystery Shopping Company Discussion" section of the forum.

I wanted to add that on the check I received and the tasks that I was suppose to do, I didn't try to cash the check at the bank, I tried to cash it at Walmart, (this is before I found it to be a scam), Walmart would have cashed it, but...the check wouldn't go through their cashing machine, they said that the machine couldn't read something that was on the check..( I can't remember just what that was). When I took a closer look at the check, it did appear to be a bit blurry, even though you could read it ok..it was like the letters & numbers were on top of each other...(sorry..thats the best way I can explain it). Well, I just folded up the check and paper work and set it aside... I had seen somewhere, where I can report this..I would like to do so, but can't find out the address or phone number where to report it. I was so excited about this..I was going to make some easy money..I should have known that if it sounds to good to be true, its not! I wish to Thank everyone who has put in a reply to me, it makes it much easier to understand whats going on out there in this big world of rip offs. Its really sad.. THANK YOU ALL.
