Yes. There are many non-purchase shops available from various companies. I've only been at it 2 months, and I've made between $3 and $60 without spending a penny out of pocket.

Keep in mind that with dining or grocery shops, you'll be reimbursed for money you would have spent anyway, feeding yourself. I've cut my grocery bill by one-third by eating free every weekend.

There are non-purchase shops out such as bank shops, heathcare, funeral homes, and car dealerships. Retail shops can also require a very modest purchase of less than $2 and in a shop I did a coupls of days ago I only needed to spend 50 cents.

Hi, bogletree, we are a group of mystery shoppers, not mystery shopping companies. To get started applying for jobs with mystery shopping companies, you will need to go to each company's website and fill out an application. Then you will be able to access their job boards. Lots of good reading here. See the New Mystery Shopper section.
Ok! I thought this was a go-out to shop....instead online. How will I know when and where to shop?

best idea is to sign up for these three sites

www.jobslinger.com
www.archondev.com
www.msjobboard.com

they will connect you with as much as 80% of the shops in your area... the other 20% are usually the higher paying ones which do require more detail and work respectively

if you want a good site to start [www.certifiedfieldassociate.com]

they pay you to do odd jobs in big box stores, pharmacies, dollar stores, and movie theaters... and you do not need to put up a penny...

as long as you have a computer, printer/scanner, and internet access you are on your way... have fun... and enjoy...

It DOES sometimes take money to make money, but I HAVE come across some shops that don't require a purchase...property rental companies...EPMSonline is one for apartment rentals - and Mercantile Systems [mercsystems.com], I believe, had a series of shops that are for storage facilities... you go in with a scenario of your choosing, and check out the storage facility [taking a tour, inquiring about sizes, availability, and prices]. The questionnaire does require quite a bit of narratives, but at least you don't need any money up front to do them!

Just saying.... there's a few ideas for you.
Certainly there are bank shops and other observation only shops that pay a fee but require no purchase. I received a $10 offer this morning to visit and look around an eyeglasses store and a $25 offer to visit a bank's promotion table on a college campus nearby. Neither of these require a purchase. Cell phone shops also require no purchase.

Generally, though, it takes money to make money. As you start shopping you need to set aside some funds as a 'shop kitty' to have working funds to do shops. Looking for fee only shops seriously limits what you can do and especially where reimbursements are of value to you, the overall value of a shop with a reimbursement can be much better for you. I wouldn't pull out of my driveway for a $7 shop, but a $7 grocery shop with $10 reimbursement has enough value to make it worthwhile.
Funeral homes?? Oh my...
I had NO idea, but suppose all is fair in love & Mystery Shopping! yawning smiley)

A shop I did was for pre-planning of a funeral. It was quite interesting.
