Baby steps

Hello All. I did my first fast food today. Today is also the first time I did two shops in one day. I'm getting my confidence up. I do make silly mistakes, like forgetting to check restrooms and forgetting to get a business card. Luckily I check my questionnaire in the car, it gives me the chance to go back and correct myself. Still waiting to get a gas station assignment. I want to try my hand at as many different shops as I can. Now I'm going to spend the afternoon outside. It's a beautiful day in NY.

Good for you taking it slow and being so thorough. Before you know it those instructions will be embedded so deep in your brain you can do the shop blindfolded with both arms tied behind your backsmiling smiley Send some of that weather my way, it's cold and rainy and we need some good weather for the ballgame tomorrow night!

That's the way to do it. After just under four weeks I'm comfortable with 4-5 shops a day, and as more get knocked out that number will get higher.

Congratulations on your first shops! It sounds as though you are starting off nice and easy, which is the perfect way not to get overwhelmed. Take it at your own pace with an eye to building up a good reputation with the companies you are working with and you will find it rewarding.

Best way to do it. Try a wide variety of shops for a number of companies to see what hits your personal sweet spot. There are such a wide variety of companies and types of shops, and different people enjoy different aspects of the industry.

If you are just getting started, I would recommend Market Force (blue portal), Corporate Research International, Maritz and Bare. The reason for this is that these companies have nationwide clients so will have work near you. Their pay tends to be on the low side but they pay like clockwork. They offer good training and instructions. Their jobs are pretty basic work with fairly simple reports. And if you mess up and have a shop rejected (no pay and no reimbursement) you won't be out of pocket very much money. While many folks continue to work with these companies even after they gain experience, these are sort of stepping stones to start with and see if you like shopping before you take the time to sign up with a whole lot of companies.
