Your routine when it comes to finding jobs...

What is your typical routine for finding and scheduling your week? Where do you go, etc. I am finding it not so easy when I don't get a response after signing up and applying for jobs. Are there old jobs on volition/jobslinger that just linger? I need a better routine. I enjoy the shop part but am frustrated with the lack of response from some companies. THANKS for any help you guys can give me yawning smiley)

sand,
How many companies are you signed up with? If less than 100, that might be the main issue.

Based in MD, near DC
Shopping from the Carolinas to New York
Have video cam; will travel

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Walesmaven is correct, you need to be signed up with a large number of companies. I have always felt that sign up sequencing should be first the four companies that are pretty much guaranteed to have shops anywhere in the country because of their nationwide clients. Those companies are Market Force (blue portal), Bare, Corporate Research International and Maritz. You WILL find jobs in your area, though they may or may not be to your liking, and it will get you started as a shopper. If you find that shopping works for you, then you go to Jobslinger and sign up with every company that has posted jobs in your area. The jobs you see will probably have been taken already, but at least you KNOW those companies have clients in your area and you will be ready to request or self assign them in future months. Then you settle down with a list of legitimate companies and start signing up. Make sure you enable each of these companies to send you email.

You need to keep a list of all companies you are signed up with including your login and password. Companies gain and lose clients and you never know when one will get a new client in your area. I also find it convenient to set up bookmarks in Firefox that remember the login and password for me. With companies I have recently signed up with, I check their job boards every few days until I have pretty much determined that they have no clients in my area at present. If they do have clients near me, then I take a look at the jobs and the pay structure and if they are even marginally of interest, I request or self assign one of the jobs to give them a try.

Over time you will find the companies you are comfortable working with and you will determine what types of jobs are the best fit naturally for you. You will also figure out when they are likely to post new jobs so that you can be there to request or self assign them.

I have already checked the websites today of the companies that tend to post work in the middle of the month and within the past 24 hrs have picked up a half dozen shops for this month. I'm checking one website 4 times a day because I am anticipating a major posting of jobs for next month to come up shortly. "Somewhere around the middle of the month" is when they post. Other companies post starting around the 20th while other companies post the last week of the month, while others post the first week of the month, while others seem to post at random.
You can also do the opposite with MSCs that consistenly do not have shops in your area. On most sites you can stop recieving their emails but stay registered. Then when you are bored you can go through them and see if they have work in your area. I am signed up with over 150 companies but now only recieve emails from about 20. Saves a lot of time not getting emails for work no where near you.
This site is the place to learn, that's for sure!! I will say the biggest tip yet, is to use RoboForm!! Good Lord, what a life-saver when it comes to all these applications!! Get it, THEN go to town signing up with a BUNCH of companies!! The ones they listed are great starting points, they actually supply me with the majority of my workload... Happy Shopping! yawning smiley)
